How to Make Your Own Tahini!

Some fresh tahini just made! I always reuse the glass jars I get nut butter in. This was my boyfriend's jar.

I love Artisana brand Raw Tahini (Artsana website) because of the good price, texture, and taste! It's oober good! But sometimes they don't have it and to make my own is so cheap and easy (and delicious!) that why wouldn't I make my own?! I love this stuff!

Not only is tahini good for hummus, its awesome as a dip on veggies or fruits, as a sandwich spread, a base for dressings, and more! If you want to know how to make your own, that's truly raw, then you've come to the right place! (We have pictures too!)

Raw Tahini

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups raw hulled sesame seeds

Preparation:
Place sesame seeds in food processor (I use a Cuisinart) and let it whirl! During the whirling, you will probably have to stop the processor to scrape the sides of the bowl to let it keep processing. Here are the different phases of processing:
The seeds are in!
They're whirling away!
After a minute or two of whirling, they will look like this.
After a few minutes more, they will start to clump up together.
After a few minutes more it will start to look like a paste. Be patient! The buttery-ness is coming!
TADA! It's tahini time! After about a total of  8 minutes, the sesame seeds will look like this! So yummers! :o)
Some creamy tahini!
Notes:
  • The tahini will heat up while processing, so if you are worried about it becoming too hot, then you could refrigerate it until it cools and then proceed with the processing.
  • If you like your tahini a little chunkier, then you don't have to process it for so long. Do whatever suits your taste buds! :oP
  • Not only could the handy processor make creamy tahini, it could make wonderful almond butter and other nut/seed butters! Combine different seeds and nuts to make your own unique one!
Hope you enjoy the tahini and have an oober day! :o)
